  • WordPress Theme Detector

Curious what theme a WordPress website is using? Enter any URL below and we'll reveal the theme, version, and popular plugins powering the site.

    Want Something Unique?

Off-the-shelf themes are great, but they can't give you a truly unique online presence. A custom WordPress theme is built specifically for your brand, your goals, and your users.

How Does This WordPress Theme Detector Work?

My theme detection process follows these steps:

    1

    Fetch the webpage

We request the HTML source code of the URL you provide, just like your browser does when you visit a website.

    2

    Verify it's WordPress

We look for WordPress-specific patterns like /wp-content/, /wp-includes/, or the WordPress generator meta tag.

    3

    Extract theme information

We parse the HTML to find the active theme's folder name, then fetch its style.css to read metadata like theme name, version, author, and whether it's a child theme.

    4

    Scan for plugins

We search for signatures of 35+ popular plugins including Elementor, WooCommerce, Yoast SEO, Contact Form 7, and many more.

Why Can't Some Themes Be Detected?

Theme detection isn't always possible. Here are common reasons why:

    • Custom-built themes — Themes built from scratch won't match any known theme in marketplaces or repositories.
    • Security plugins — Some security plugins hide or obfuscate theme paths to prevent detection.
    • CDN configurations — Sites using CDNs may rewrite asset URLs, making theme paths unrecognizable.
    • Headless WordPress — Sites using WordPress as a backend API with a separate frontend (React, Vue, etc.) won't expose traditional theme paths.
    • Blocked access — Some servers block automated requests or require authentication.

If you're looking for a website that can't be easily detected or replicated, a custom WordPress theme might be the right choice for your business.

Ready-Made Themes vs Custom WordPress Development

Ready-made themes from ThemeForest, Elegant Themes, or the WordPress repository can be a great starting point — they're affordable, quick to deploy, and often come with lots of features. However, they come with trade-offs:

    Ready-Made Themes

    • ✓ Lower upfront cost
    • ✓ Quick to launch
    • ✗ Same design as thousands of others
    • ✗ Bloated with unused features
    • ✗ Limited customization
    • ✗ Potential security vulnerabilities

    Custom Development

    • ✓ Unique brand identity
    • ✓ Only the features you need
    • ✓ Better performance
    • ✓ Easier to maintain long-term
    • ✓ Built for your specific goals
    • ✓ Ongoing support available

If you've used this tool and realized your competitors are all using the same handful of themes, that's actually an opportunity. A custom WordPress theme helps you stand out, loads faster, and gives you complete control over your online presence.
